Employment: Lt. Carpenter started with the Jaffrey Police Department in January 1983 as a part-time officer. In September 1984 he was appointed to a fulltime position. In 1988 he was promoted to Corporal and in 1989 promoted to Sergeant. In those capacities he was in charge of all functions of the uniform division of the department which included supervision of all patrol officers and crossing guards, scheduling, initial investigations, special operations and details scheduling. In 1992 he was assigned as a Detective Sergeant where his duties included conducting felony and serious misdemeanor investigations and working as the Police Prosecutor at the District Court. In 1997 he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant. In addition to being second in command to the Chief of the department, his duties included supervision over all lower ranking personnel, recruitment, training, field training, report approval, internal investigations,, and he was the detail coordinator for all special events. He was the operations commander for the annual Fireworks event which deployed 50 officers to provide public safety for approximately 40,000 people that saturated the town during that event. In 2005 he was sworn in with the Peterborough Police Deparment and was permanently assigned as a police prosecutor to the Regional Prosecutor's Office where he prosecuted district court cases for the Towns of Jaffrey and Peterborough. In July 2010, he retired from full time employment but continued with the Jaffrey Police Department as their prosecutor on a part-time basis.

Training/ Education: Lt. Carpenter has received an Associate in Science degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Wachusett Community College in 1985 and a Bachelor in Science degree from Anna Maria College in 1998. in 2003 he received his Juris Doctor from the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover, Massachusetts.While in law school he interned as a law clerk for the Hon. Justice Patrick Fox in the Gardner, MA District Court and interned with the Office of the Attorney General in Massachusetts as well as a private firm. He was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2004 and also to practice before the Federal District Court in Massachusetts. He attended the 70th New Hampshire Police Academy and also graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy.  He holds numerous certifications and has completed several specialized and technical training schools.

  • He is native to, and grew up in Winchendon, Ma. and enjoys golf, boating and bicycling in his off duty time.
  • Lt. Carpenter is a recipient of the Education Medal and was awarded Officer of the Year for 2004, and the Distinguished Service Award in 2005.
