Be it remembered that I, Cornelius W. Warren of East Jaffrey in the County of Cheshire and State of New Hampshire, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this my last will and testament hereby revoking any will heretofore made by me.

Third. I devise and bequeath the remaining half of my property whether real or personal to the Town of Jaffrey, but in trust nevertheless for the following purpose. Said principal to be invested and handled by the Selectmen of Jaffrey and the income is to [sic] used by said Selectmen in aiding and assisting the industrious and worthy poor of said town of Jaffrey. Said principal to be invested at all times by said Selectmen in securities that are legal for New Hampshire Savings Banks. It is my desire if the town accepts this legacy that it be known as ìThe Warren Fund for the worthy and industrious poor of Jaffrey [sic]

Biography of Cornelius Warren

CORNELIUS W. WARREN, b. Ludlow, Vt., May 8, 1831, came to Jaffrey as a child with his fatherís family. As a young man he worked in the chair factories of Gardner, Mass., but returned to Jaffrey in 1871 and bought the John French farm, now (1930) owned by Frederick W. Fassett. [Located on Jaquith Road]. He was an intelligent citizen and successful farmer; many years trustee of Monadnock Savings Bank, and of the Conant Cemetery Association. In October, 1886, he moved into East Jaffrey Village and bought the place near the Baptist Church, now owned by Percy L. Cutter. [Later owned by his daughter, Mildred. Immediately west of Post Office.] He m. Edna Wilbur, dau. of Leprelet Wilbur, b. 1831; d. Jaffrey, Apr. 8, 1920, a. 88 yrs., 11 mos. He d. Sept. 10, 1920, a. 89. Children:

13      I. IRVlNG W., d. Sept. 24, 1869, a. 6 yrs., 10 mos.

14      II. FRANK, d. May 24, 1871, a. 5 weeks.
