The Willa Cather Fund—Old Town Cemetery
TOWN MEETING HELD MARCH 8, 1949. Following motion was adopted. Article 14 That the town accept the sum of $903.75, the same being the net proceed from the sale of the Willa Cather, the E. Granville Crabtree, and the Elizabeth Van Deman cemetery lots in the Old Jaffrey Burying Ground as well as an additional sum of $336.25 to be added to said $903.75, making a total of $1200.00 said same to be invested by the Trustees of Trust Funds, and identified as "THE WILLA CATHER FUND" the income from which is to be used for the perpetual care of the Old Jaffrey Burying [sic]
That said income is to be used primarily for the general care of the area in which all of said lots are located in the Southwest corner of the cemetery and bounded generally by stone walls on the South and West, the tomb on the North, and the main entrance driveway on the East.
That aiditions to said fund may be made by anyone interested in the proper maintainance of the Willa Cather grave and the general area in which it is located. and that after reasonable care has been given to said area and the lots of the particular owners mentioned, as well as those of future contributors to this fund any remaining unepened [sic] balance is to be used to care for the rest of said Old Jaffrey Burying ground. The wording of the article in the warrant reads: "14. To see if the Town will vote to accept the total sum of $1,200 for the perpetual care of the Southeast section of the Old Jaffrey Burying Ground in which corner the "Willa Cather" lot is located or act in any way relating thereto, as petitioned for by George S. Austerman and others."
