Citizen Commendations for Police Personnel

Although law enforcement is one of the most noble professions, it is frequently a thankless endeavor that requires each officer to accept increased personal risk, high levels of stress, and crisis filled environments as part of their daily lives. Officers must also embrace required shift rotations, undesirable work hours, disruptive sleep patterns, and relatively low pay as compared to many other professions.  Add to that increased public scrutiny, "Defund" movements, and a general lack of appreciation or outright disdain for law enforcement from some individuals and groups and it is easy to understand why it is so difficult to recruit and retain high quality officers.  It takes special people to be willing to enter this profession and exceptional people to do it well.  Understanding this may help you appreciate that the men and women of the Jaffrey Police Department each have a strong sense of dedication to our community and our basic mission to “protect and serve” you.         

The Jaffrey Police Department prides itself on the professionalism of our officers, our adherence to our policies, and the proper enforcement of local and state laws.  Members of the Jaffrey Police Department are expected to uphold our core values of Honor, Integrity, Courage, and Respect as we provide effective police services in a professional, courteous, and equitable manner.  Are we doing that?  Were we there for you when you needed us?  Did a Jaffrey Police Officer help you during a difficult time in your life?  Have you had a positive interaction with one or more of our officers?  If so, and you are so inclined, please take a little time to let us know.   

If you want to thank or commend one of our officers there are some good ways to do it. 

• Stop by the station and talk to the Chief…open door policy!  
• Call the Chief at 603-532-7865. 
• Email the Chief at tmuilenberg@townofjaffrey.com.
• Fill out a “Commendation for Police Personnel” form and email it to the Chief, mail it to us at 26 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH, 03452, or drop it off at the station during normal business hours.  The form is available in our lobby and it is attached and downloadable at the bottom of this page.   

Although a “thank you” or commendation is a small gesture, it goes a long way in making our officers feel appreciated for the very difficult job they do each day.  Thank you notes and commendations are added to their personnel files, they have a positive impact on annual performance evaluations, and they may be the catalyst for an award through our internal Awards and Commendation Program.
